New Directions in Metal Clay
25 Creative Jewelry Projects
CeCe Wire
Metal clay is the most exciting material in jewelry design today: the procedures for molding and shaping are simple, the tools few, and the results stunning. CeCe Wire, a leader in the field, details all the newest innovations and clays, as well as the basics for beginners. She includes every form and formula, plus an extensive array of cutting-edge techniques that range from stone-setting to surface finishing. Numerous color photos showcase diverse possibilities, including enameling methods such as champlevé, inlaying with epoxy resin, and silk screening. Twenty-five projects—some easy, some more advanced—include gorgeous beads, a bold contemporary brooch, and stacked rings made from silver and 22 karat gold. Publisher: Lark

Keum-bo on silver

This 48 page book is the first to cover all aspects of Keum-boo, an ancient Asian metalworking technique in which thin sheets of pure gold are fused to fine silver (both conventional and PMC) and to sterling. Even if you donšt have metal working skills, the Keum-Boo on PMC techniques Celie's developed provide a simple and relatively inexpensive way to add the luster of gold to silver work.
For the more advanced, Celie demonstrates applying the gold to large, hollow forms, and to complex shapes.
Learn step by step instruction for making your own coil cover, cutting the gold foil with scissors, a craft knife, and paper punches, burnishing it on to the heated silver, finishing and patina, and creating your own texturing tools. Find out about sources for the gold, different thicknesses of foil, using and maintaining tools and many other tips for mastering the ancient art of Keum-boo. 48 pages 80 color photos

Working With Precious Metal Clay

By Tim McCreight
Since Precious Metal Clay (PMC) was introduced to artists in the United States three years ago, thousands of jewelers, bead makers and polymer clay artists have discovered its huge potential. Until now the only text on the subject has been a translation of a Japanese book, but that's about to change.
Tim McCreight, one of the first American designers to work with PMC, has created an information-filled book suited to beginners and professionals. The first section consists of 50 projects that teach how to use the material by showing specific applications. Use these ideas or modify them to make your own work - either way you'll find a wealth of information on every page.
A second section includes 25 techniques, while a third part describes 15 tools you can make for yourself. Add a comprehensive Appendix and you'll see why this is a must-have book for anyone interested in this revolutionary new material.

Creative Metal Clay Jewelry By Cece Wire
Creative Metal Clay Jewelry Use silver or gold metal clay to make extraordinary jewelry; it's a material that looks and feels like clay and yet, when fired, it becomes pure, precious metal. Model it, give it texture, shape it, and fire it as you would any other clay. Once it's transformed into metal, it can be buffed, burnished, polished, enameled, or patinated. Virtually anything you can create with traditional fine silver or pure gold, you can craft with metal clay, and so it's the perfect material for jewelry-making. As with any art medium, find out the basic techniques and the tools you'll need before starting one of the projects. Fancy Lacy Pearl earrings show how beautiful a mirror finish looks against unfinished, fired metal clay. The delicate silver tracery on the dangling disks is elegant, while the pearl drops make the earrings extra dressy. The smallest ripple in silver's smooth surface creates great organic texture, as seen in the pattern of piercing in the Pin Dots ...

Art Of Metal Clay, The
Developed in Japan in the early 1990s, metal clay represents a dramatic development in the handling of precious metals for jewelrymaking. Metal clay consists of microscopic particles of silver or gold suspended in a pliable organic binder that can be worked with the hands and simple household tools, eliminating the need for difficult metalworking processes such as soldering, hammering, and cutting. When metal clay is fired, the binder burns away and the metal particles fuse into pure (99.9 percent) metal.

The Art of Metal Clay is a comprehensive introduction to the medium designed specifically for crafters and jewelry makers, detailing the essentials of working, firing, and finishing metal clay to create beautiful jewelry and decorative objects. Artist and instructor Sherri Haab demonstrates metal clay’s remarkable versatility, showing how it can be textured, molded, carved, and sculpted to create gorgeous beads, bracelets, pendants, earrings, rings, and other jewelry ...
